Spring, Cap & Gown, and Class Group Photos Upcoming

Friday, April 7th is PICTURE DAY at RWA!

Grades K-3/4 through sixth grade students will have individual spring pictures taken by a Strawbridge photographer. You are under no obligation to purchase these pictures and no payment is needed in advance, but please be prompt in paying or returning them if you choose to buy or not buy any after they are processed and distributed.

ALL grades (K3/4 through 12th) will have a class group photo taken on this date also. However, unlike the individual spring picture, these group photos must be pre-ordered/pre-paid. $12 for an 8 x 10 color class photo. Order/Payment envelopes have been given to the students already, but extras are available in the school office if needed.

Senior CAP & GOWN photos will be taken at some point on this same date as well. Seniors, please iron both your graduation gown and stole PRIOR to picture day. Guys need to wear a white button down shirt and neck/bow tie underneath their gowns for the picture. Girls should have the white collar sewn or tacked around the neckline of the gown and wear a scoop neck blouse or dress underneath the gown. All seniors should write their names underneath their hat. These pictures must be pre-ordered and pre-paid. Order forms will go out to the seniors this week.

Contact Martha Ladd if you should have any questions. (mladd@richardwinn.org) Thank you.

Eagle Classic XIV

The weather was perfect for a morning of sporting clay fun at the Rocky Creek facility in Richburg on Sat., March 25. Much gratitude is expressed to all those volunteers, to those who bought and sold raffle tickets, and to those who participated and/or sponsored stations.  A special thank you to AgSouth of Lugoff for a corporate sponsorship.

A grand total of the funds raised is incomplete at this time until all the fees associated with this event have been both collected and paid out. Thank you for your interest and support.

Jenni Sharpe Memorial 5K

There was a very good turnout of Richard Winn students, staff, and parents who took part in the 1st annual Jenni Sharpe Memorial 5K this past Saturday, March 18. Although the dreary weather was less than favorable, rain gear was donned, spirits were lifted in Jenni's memory, and the event went on as planned.

The fundraising run/walk idea was conceived and coordinated by Demetrius Davis and Ryan Sharpe of the Fairfield Central HS staff and Callie Sims of RWA's staff. They were assisted by a number of Jenni's closest friends and family members who served as helpers prior to and during the event.

The event started off with a welcome by Coach Davis; a thank you from Ryan, Jenni's husband; a prayer by Rev. Julie Belman; and a tribute to Jenni by Callie Sims. Music and PA system were provided by Douglas Pauley. BiLo, Rose's, and KJ's donated fruit and water, and Palmetto Health USC Orthopaedic Center helped sponsor the event.

Just before the run/walk began, the crowd released white and teal helium balloons in Jenni's memory. Next the runners and walkers made their way to their respective starting lines and awaited the signal for the main event to begin.

At the conclusion of the 5K, everyone was invited to have a cupcake in Jenni's memory as a special way to also remember her birthday that day. The event was a huge success in raising scholarship funds for both a Fairfield Central student and a Richard Winn student.

Jenni Caldwell Sharpe was a Richard Winn graduate and the mother of RWA pre-schooler John Ryan Sharpe. She was struck with cervical cancer at a very young age and passed away in January 2016 after a valiant battle. She touched many lives with her contagious smile, bubbly personality, and godly encouragement.

Volunteers & Teams/Sponsors Needed

In addition to team recruitment and sponsors, we need volunteer trappers and scorers. Volunteers will be given an Eagle Classic t-shirt, and additionally student helpers may be credited with community service.

We are also asking that you help us sell raffle tickets for a 12 Ga. Beretta A-300 semi automatic shotgun. The shotgun drawing will take place at the event, but you do not need to be present to win. Top raffle ticket sales person will be awarded a cash prize. In order to win, the salesperson's name must be written on the ticket stubs when they're turned in. Mrs. Jena Johnson is helping to coordinate the raffle ticket sales.

Contact Martha or Callie Ladd Sims for more information, raffle tickets, and to volunteer to help with this fundraising event. All proceeds will be put toward scholarships to attend Richard Winn Academy or be donated to the school.

Please help us spread the word, especially to all your gun-loving and shooting enthusiasts. More information can be found on the Billy Ladd Memorial Eagle Classic Facebook page.

Spring Sports Update

We're proud of our varsity softball team for winning the 1A bracket and finishing 4th overall in the SCISA Preseason Tournament in Sumter this past weekend.

RWA will host Laurens on Tuesday. Varsity softball begins at 4:00 P.M, and varsity baseball starts at 5:00 P.M. Come support our Eagle teams on their home diamonds.

"Note"-able Achievements!

We are so proud of our students who competed in the SCISA Music Festival last week! Joseph Stillwell and Mary Stegall-Smith won silver. Mitchell Gibbons, Cassie McKeown, Juliet Pineda, Caitlyn Talbert, and Charlie Bonds won gold! Congratulations to these talented students and Mrs. Peake, sponsor!

An All Star Performance

Senior Mitchell Gibbons was selected to play in the SCISA-GISA All Star game this past Saturday at Heathwood Hall School in Columbia. The SCISA A-AA All Stars squeaked out a narrow 108-103 victory over the Georgia visitors in closely battled contest.

Mitchell led the Eagles in scoring throughout his senior season and was honored earlier in the season for reaching the 1000 career points milestone.
