Atkerson Accolades

Congratulations to Lady Eagle basketball standout Alyssa Atkerson on being named to the SCISA State A All Tournament Team recently.

Alyssa closed out her basketball career in stellar fashion as she scored a combined 48 points in her last two games while leading the Lady Eagles to a final four finish.

Congratulations, Alyssa, on this outstanding accolade! You make us proud at RWA!

Play BALL!

Spring sports are officially in "full swing" as the varsity baseball team already has two games "under their belts" with two more this week. Varsity softball season opens Tuesday at Fairfield Central at 5 P.M. and then at Ridgeview HS on Thursday at 5:30 P.M. Alumna Millie Mincey Lambert returns to coach the Lady Eagles and direct the softball program.

Coach Paul Brigman's baseball team is participating in Fairfield Central's early season tournament this week. The Eagles dropped Monday's game to Great Falls, 5-7, but are hoping to get back into the win column when they play again on the Griffins' diamond Tuesday at 4:30 P.M. and on Wednesday at 6:00 P.M.

Good luck to our Eagle teams! Grab your chair (and a blanket ?) and head out to the ball fields to show your support.

Tuesday - Varsity Baseball @ FC - 4:30; Varsity Softball @ FC - 5:00

They've Still Got It!

On a blustery, but warm and sunny Saturday afternoon, over 20 former baseball Eagles returned to RWA to take the home diamond once more to prove to family, friends, and themselves, that they still had the skills and love for the game of baseball.

Prior to the Alumni vs. Varsity game, the alumni divided themselves into two teams to play a shortened game against each other. During that event, former standout Josh Peake slammed a homer over the center field fence to put his team ahead. However, the other team rallied back to get the win.

The alumni pulled out an 18-12 victory over the varsity as they re-lived their glory days on Billy Ladd Field. One of the highlights of that game was Ryan Parker's out-of-the-park home run.

Coordinated by alumnus Cal Caldwell and umpired by Board Chairman Jeff Wade, the event was so much fun for all who attended that many requested it should become an annual event. However, after a day or two of enduring and rubbing down sore muscles, one might imagine that many of the alumni participants are probably already thinking about getting their bodies into better shape to do this again next time.

Thank you to all who planned, participated, and attended this fun, family event!

Lady Eagles Finish with Class!

Alyssa Atkerson
The Lady Eagles battled to the final buzzer but fell a few points short (40-52) of advancing to Saturday's championship finals. Senior standout Alyssa Atkerson closed out her five-year varsity career with a team high 21 points.

Eagles Transition to the Diamond

RWA hosted the Camden Military Spartans at Billy Ladd Field in a baseball double-header on Wednesday.

A number of Coach Paul Brigman's varsity baseball players literally went from playing round ball to hard ball in less than 24 hours. Several members of the Eagle basketball team joined the baseball team for the first time today, opening day of the season, after competing in the basketball quarter finals in Sumter on Tuesday evening. Fortunately, the end results of today's baseball game turned out in favor of the Eagles, 8-5, in 6 1/2 innings of play. Congratulations, Eagles!

Senior Christian Christianson got the win on the mound and also helped himself out at the plate, going 1-2. Junior Peyton Gilbert went 2-4.

Prior to the varsity game, the middle school Eagles, coached by Coach Rick Davis, opened up against the younger Spartan team. However, this time, the Spartans claimed the narrow 6-5 victory late in the game.

Below are some photo highlights of Wednesday's MS-V double-header.

Eagles Finish in Top Eight Teams

Class of 2017 -  Johnson,  Christianson, Carvalho, Gibbons
Congratulations to the boys' basketball team on a great season! Although the semi-final results from Tuesday night's match up against reigning state champion Charleston Collegiate didn't turn out in favor of our Eagles, we are proud of our players and coaches for the way they represented our school all season.

Sadly, seniors Bryant Carvalho, Christian Christianson, Mitchell Gibbons, and Todd Johnson played their final basketball game in Eagle uniforms. They all will certainly be missed next season!

Thank you to the players, coaches, Booster Club members, and fans for an exciting 2016-2017 season!

Lady Eagles Earn Spot in Semi-Finals

Senior Alyssa Atkerson  leads the Lady Eagles with 27 point performance!
Coach Jessie Stidham's girls captured the round two playoff victory, 49-44, to knock out #1 seed Curtis Baptist at Wilson Hall School on Monday evening. Senior standout point guard Alyssa Atkerson led the Lady Eagles with 27 points, followed by Taylor Spires with eight.

The Lady Eagles led by a comfortable margin throughout most of the first half, but slowly the opponents worked their way back into the game late in the second quarter.  At one point in the third quarter Curtis Baptist took a brief one point lead, but it wasn't long before the RWA team got back on track to regain and keep the lead. The Lady Eagles outplayed and outsmarted Curtis Baptist in the final quarter to seal the victory and advance to the semi-finals on Thursday.

RWA will face the Dorchester Raiders in the semi-final game at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at Wilson Hall School.

Make travel plans to follow our teams to Sumter and cheer them on to victory!
