RWA Welcomes New Staff Members

The RWA family welcomes Mrs. Kristen Chiasson and Mrs. LeAnn Douglass to fill the last two job openings for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year.

Mrs. Chiasson will be taking over the fifth grade teaching position. She, her husband Nick, and their children reside in  Blythewood. Their youngest child, Jacob, will also be joining the RWA family as a rising fifth grader. Highly recommended, Mrs. Chiasson comes to RWA with extensive teaching experience.

While certainly no stranger to RWA, Mrs. LeAnn Douglass rejoins the RWA staff after leaving several years ago to work in the Fairfield County Treasurer's office. She comes back to us this time as our new secretary/receptionist. Mrs. Douglass and her husband Gregg live in Winnsboro. They have a son Ryan who is a 2006 RWA graduate, a daughter-in-law Kristina, and adorable granddaughter Ally Grace. The Douglasses are also the parents of the late Ally Douglass.

We are thrilled to welcome our Chiasson newcomers and Mrs. Douglass to the Richard Winn family!

50th Celebration Planning Meeting

The next meeting to help plan RWA's 50th year celebration will take place on Monday, July 20th at 6:00 P.M. We will meet in the teachers' lounge. We will share ideas and begin forming committees to map out how to accomplish this milestone celebration! Please come if you would like to have some input and volunteer your services. We welcome current and past RWA family and friends! Hope to see you there!

Campus Updates

Thanks to alumna Hayley Ray and her crew, the paved parking lots now have newly painted parking space lines. Also, work is in progress to convert the unused gym lobby area into locker rooms by the fabulous volunteer Taylor Team (Gary and Jolene). The interior walls are up, the glass has been covered for privacy (as pictured), and the lockers will be built and installed within the next month.

Life at RWA goes on...even during the summer break! Look for info to come in the near future regarding some work days for sprucing up the campus prior to the new 2015-2016 school year.

Help Needed

Calling all able-bodied high school students and adults for Saturday morning, July 11!

The Booster Club is receiving a "gift" of tin and wooden trusses that come as the result of Fairfield Farms' recent misfortune (a micro burst weather event 2 weeks ago flattered 3 of Lou Ann Coleman's turkey houses).

In order to receive the "gift," help is needed to remove the tin & trusses from the houses. Tentative plans for it include building a covered batting cage.

Lou Ann's farm is located in Blair, SC (2887 Ashford Ferry Road), about a 25-30 minute drive from Winnsboro.

Biosecurity restrictions prohibit anyone who owns chickens or other birds from helping with this project. Please do not come if you have had contact with a bird or birds in the past 2 weeks.

However, if you are available to help, please bring your own gloves, hammer, cat's claw, and something to put nails in. Any and all help is appreciated. Billy Ladd will be there to give instructions and help you get started.

50th Celebration Committee Report - Meeting #1

Even though our group tonight was small in number, there was certainly no lack of ideas tossed around in respect to how we might want to celebrate Richard Winn's 50th year. Several of you expressed a desire to help but were unable to attend tonight's first planning session. We have set the date of Monday, July 20th at 6 P.M. for our second meeting, so please mark your calendars now. However, if you cannot attend, you may submit your ideas to me via my school email address (mladd@richardwinn.org).

Help Needed

Plans for Tuesday, July 7, include  alumna Haley Ray and her work crew coming to re-paint the parking spaces in the RWA's paved parking lots. To assist Haley in preparing for the much needed paint job, we are asking any of you who have gas powered leaf blowers come help blow the pavement clean on Monday evening, July 6, at 7 P.M.

While the paved lots are being painted on Tuesday, parking will be moved to the unpaved areas in front of the white fence or in the gravel high school parking area.

Thank you in advance for your help.
